A woman convicted in the death of her two year old son at her Fayette Street, Binghamton home will be released from prison after the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court ruled the guilty verdict against Veronica Taft was made against the weight of evidence.

Taft was convicted in 2012 of manslaughter in the death of Lyric Taft in 2010 in spite of her claims that she was at work when the toddler died.  She was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Taft’s boyfriend, who was home at the time that the child’s badly beaten body was found, admitted he had been offered immunity if he testified against his girlfriend.

A child endangerment charge against Taft still stands but that jail time has been served.
