Merry Harris Remembered as Tireless Volunteer and Public Servant

A Binghamton woman with a long history of serving Broome County has passed away.

Former Executive Director of the Discovery Center, former Broome County Legislator, volunteer and former City of Binghamton Economic Development Director, Merry Harris passed away on Friday, January 19.

According to the family’s paid obituary, over her public career, Harris also advised Broome County Executive Timothy Grippen as Executive Assistant and worked with the American Red Cross as a veteran advocate and in disaster relief.

Harris’ work has been recognized by several awards in the community.

A ceremony and reception will be held January 27 at Remlik’s Grille on Lewis Street from noon to 2 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Binghamton VINES program at P.O. Box 3104, Binghamton, New York 13902.
