Mayor: Firm Still Interested in Buying Binghamton Business Park

Binghamton Mayor Richard David says a Syracuse-based developer is continuing to consider acquiring a 21-acre First Ward site and an abandoned power plant.

A year ago, David announced Bowers Development intended to buy the properties for $1.1 million.

At the time, the mayor said the sale terms included "a 12-month due diligence period" for both Bowers and the city.

On Tuesday, David said Bowers is "absolutely" planning to acquire the Charles Street Business Park site and the neighboring cogeneration facility.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, the mayor said the developer had "two specific tenants ready to sign" right before the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

David said the development effort "is very much active" and there still is "significant interest" in the site from prospective tenants.
