Gun threat in Vestal
A 41-year-old Vestal man has been jailed after an incident with a handgun in his neighborhood.
Town Police say they received several calls about a fight and a man with a gun on Thursday evening. When officers arrived they found several people wrestling with a man in front of a house on First Avenue.
Police say witnesses told them that Shawn Sheftall of First Avenue brandished a handgun during a dispute with neighbors, threatening to shoot several of them. Officials say a few of them got the 45-caliber handgun away just before the patrols arrived.
Detectives say they found 6 additional handguns after serving a search warrant at Sheftall's home.
Sheftall was charged with three felonies: criminal use of a firearm and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was also charged with six counts of endangering the welfare of a child and menacing, which are misdemeanors.
Sheftall was arraigned at the Broome County Central Booking Facility and sent to the county jail without bail.
