Man Shot by Vestal Cop Pleads Guilty to Attempted Menacing Charge
A Michigan man who was wounded by a Vestal police officer during a strange encounter on Route 17 has admitted he pointed an air pistol at the officer before he was shot.
30-year-old Colin Yurick of Brighton, Michigan pleaded guilty in Broome County court on Tuesday to a felony count of attempted menacing of a police officer.
Vestal police officer came upon Yurick's parked car on the highway east of the Tioga County line on the night of May 13, 2020.
According to the Broome County district attorney's office, Yurick "pointed a loaded air pistol at Vestal Police Officer Jared Fiacco placing the officer in reasonable fear of serious physical injury or death."
Fiacco reportedly fired nine shots into the vehicle. Two of the shots struck Yurick, who was taken into custody nearly three hours after he was wounded.
Police said a Sig Sauer pellet pistol fell to the ground as the man was being taken into custody.
Yurick was hospitalized for six weeks for six weeks after the highway encounter.
In December, Yurick is to be sentenced to the 18 months he's been held following the Vestal incident.
Yurick then is to be extradited to Pennsylvania to face charges for allegedly firing a pellet gun at people a few hours before he stopped his car on Route 17 in Broome County.
