Authorities say Christopher Kuiper of Susquehanna was arrested Wednesday night after the car he was driving was rear-ended by a pursuing state police vehicle.

Troopers say both vehicles sustained minor damage when Kuiper slammed on the brakes in an effort to use a crossover on Route 17 in Johnson City.

Investigators say Kuiper earlier was spotted making an illegal U-turn on Interstate 81 in the town of Dickinson.

A trooper pursued Kuiper, who allegedly accelerated to 86 miles per hour as he entered the Prospect Mountain work zone. Police say he was found to be in possession of Percocet and marijuana.

Kuiper was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully fleeing police. He also was charged with marijuana possession and reckless driving.

Kuiper was arraigned in Dickinson town court and sent to Broome County Jail on $1,000 bail.
