The Maine-Endwell Spartans set a  record for the longest unbeaten streak in New York State high school football history with a win over Johnson City October 2, breaking Massena's 55 win record with the Spartans' 56th victory. Massena High from Section 10 went 54-0-1 in a streak that ended in 1957.

The 4-0 Spartans met another Class A opponent and long-time rival Johnson City who came in with a 2-2 record..Also on the line was the Spar-Cat Trophy, given to the winner of each year's football game between the two schools.

Maine-Endwell has relied more on their running game than passing game mainly because they have been so dominant in the first four games of the season, outscoring the opposition 172-34.  The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 85-55.  They have a powerful running game featuring Dominic Nadz and Shafeeq Hosea.

ME appeared to be having a bit of a struggle in the first part of the Spar-Cat contest, trailing at the start, but came back strong, finishing with a 45-30 victory over Johnson City.
