The Maine-Endwell Spartans jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back in their New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) semifinal playoff game against Canandaigua as M-E earned a hard fought 5-4 victory on Friday afternoon.

The win propels the Spartans into the championship Class A contest on Saturday when M-E faces Ballston Spa from Section 2 at 10 AM at Binghamrton University.

The Spartans had to hold off a Canandaigua team that pulled to within one run when Seth Vigneri smashed a three-run home run off Adam Rutkowski in the fifth inning to pull his team to within one run.  But Rutkowski barred the door the rest of the way to propel the Spartans into the championship game.
