Local Fire Companies Open Doors and Look for Volunteers

Dozens of local fire departments are holding open house events for Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Day in Broome County April 27.

This is the 11^th year the event has been held in Broome County. It was started in 2008 as a way to welcome residents to their community Fire Houses and boost volunteer numbers.

Broome County has 31 volunteer fire departments and over one-thousand firefighters.  Officials say emergency fire and medic crews responded to 24,428 fire calls and 31,152 medical calls last year.
