An obituary placed by the family says Frank Lopke of Apalachin died January 29. He was 84 years old.

Lopke was born in Apalachin and lived in the Southern Tier his entire life.

The obituary says he expanded from the purchase of his first dump truck as a young man to form F.S. Lopke Contracting in Lounsberry which now boasts a fleet of over 50 lime-green trucks emblazoned with the slogan: ”We Rock the Southern Tier.” The company has 14 plant operations and has business connections in ten states.

A private funeral is planned.  The family says anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution can send donations to the Apalachin Fire Department or Our Lady of Sorrows Food Pantry in Vestal.
