City of Binghamton Police are investigating the destruction of the “Little Free Library” at Recreation Park overnight August 13.  The damage was discovered by City workers the next morning.

The box holding the books was ripped off the stand and damaged but none of the literature was apparently damaged or taken.  Windows at other structures at the park, including the carousel building, were also damaged.

A number of Little Free Libraries are set up in communities around the region to encourage young people to read.  Over a half dozen book-boxes are located in City parks and the First Ward Senior Center.

The Little Free Library program is a not-for-profit organization that boasts over 90-thousand registered book exchanges around the world.
