The Binghamton Mets and Trenton Thunder battled for 17 innings July 24 in Trenton, New Jersey before Binghamton plated a run to secure a 2-1 victory. The game lasted four hours and thirty-six minutes. 17 innings is the longest number of innings a B-Mets team has ever played in a single game. 478 pitches were thrown between the two teams.
Beck Wheeler got the win for Binghamton to up his record to 5-1. Brandon Nimmo went 2-5 at the plate for the only Met to get more than one base hit. Brock Peterson ripped his sixth home run of the season as a B-Met. Starter Robert Gsellman had a solid outing going 7.1 innings and giving up Trenton's only run.
The win puts the B-Mets one-half game ahead of Reading in the Eastern Division. Trenton and the B-Mets square off again July 25 at 7:00 p.m. (air on WNBF is 6:45). Rainy Lara gets the start for Binghamton.
