The recently-retired executive director of Whitney Point Preschool and Daycare has been recognized by community residents for overseeing the center.

Kim Downs worked for more than three decades to develop and expand the service.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Downs said she's had the "privilege of being able to bring people together" to help the community provide "the very best childcare and early childhood education experiences."

Downs expressed appreciation to the residents and organizations that have provided support for the center as it has grown over the years.

Downs was honored Thursday evening during a gathering at Dorchester Park. Whitney Point Preschool and Daycare board president Cindi Ford presented a letter of appreciation from the village to Downs.
