Several Injured in “Large Fight” at Kampai Restaurant in Vestal
At least one handgun was displayed during an altercation involving several people at a popular town of Vestal restaurant.
Police said they received multiple calls reporting a large fight at Kampai Japanese Steakhouse shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday.
Units from several law enforcement agencies were sent to the restaurant at 108 North Jensen Road.
When the first officers arrived, they encountered many people trying to flee the area. Most of them were stopped and interviewed but they declined to cooperate with police.
Investigators said four men entered Kampai and immediately started to fight with a large party of people who had been at the restaurant for some time before the altercation.
Those who instigated the fight left before police arrived. They have not been identified.
Authorities said one man sustained a laceration to his forehead. He was treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and released. A few other people sustained minor injuries.
Although witnesses said at least one gun was seen during the altercation, investigators said there was no evidence anyone was shot at or injured by gunfire.
Police took one man into custody on a warrant not related to the disturbance.
People with information about the altercation may contact the Vestal police detective division at (607) 754-2477.
Representatives of Kampai restaurant did not return a call seeking comment on the incident.
