Johnson City Woman Charged After Stealing Boyfriend’s Rental Car

A Johnson City woman is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly stealing her boyfriend’s rental car and leading deputies on a pursuit through Binghamton.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Broome County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Town of Maine after a man reported his rental vehicle had been stolen. The victim told authorities he had rented a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV from Enterprise, which his girlfriend, 40-year-old Christine Turner, took and refused to return. He said Turner claimed to be in Rochester and had no intention of bringing the SUV back.

Vehicle Located in Binghamton Two Days Later

Two days later, just after midnight on June 20, deputies received a tip that the stolen SUV had been spotted in the City of Binghamton. Deputies located the vehicle on Sturges Street and attempted to stop it near Bevier and State Streets. However, the driver did not comply with emergency lights or sirens and ran several stop signs before heading south on Route 363.

Brief Struggle Ends in Arrest

The SUV eventually came to a stop near Frederick Street, but authorities say Turner refused to exit the vehicle or follow commands. After a brief struggle with deputies, Turner was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody, along with her passenger, 28-year-old Christina Yacalis of Binghamton.

Drugs Found Inside SUV

Authorities say a search of the vehicle uncovered multiple drugs, including a folded one-dollar bill containing 6.5 grams of cocaine, a Ziploc bag with Alprazolam (a controlled substance), and a jar with what tested positive as fentanyl. Deputies say the discovery added to the growing list of charges against both women.

Multiple Charges Filed

Christine Turner is now facing multiple charges, including Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd Degree, both classified as Class D felonies. She is also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, both Class A misdemeanors. In addition to these charges, she was issued numerous traffic violations related to the incident.

Released with Court Appearance Tickets

Turner and Yacalis were both arraigned in Central Arraignment Part and released with appearance tickets. Turner will answer to the Grand Larceny charge in the Town of Maine Court, and both women are due in Binghamton City Court for the remaining charges.
