A national spotlight is about to shine on one of our hometown favorites!
America’s Best Restaurants is rolling into town on Monday, July 1, and their taste buds are leading them straight to The Spiedie & Rib Pit on Upper Front Street. Filming will happen between 9 a.m. and noon, and yes, you might even catch a glimpse of yourself on camera if you swing by!
Who’s Behind the Camera?
America’s Best Restaurants isn’t just a foodie blog. They’re a national company that travels the country in search of independently owned restaurants that locals love and they don’t just show up, they feature these spots in full episodes that highlight what makes them special.
A Local Legend Since ’93
If you’ve lived in the Southern Tier for any amount of time, chances are you’ve tasted, or at least heard of, The Spiedie & Rib Pit. Owned and operated by John Schofield and Susie Lupo Schofield, the restaurant first opened its doors in 1993 and moved into its current Upper Front Street location in 2019.

Over the years, they’ve been churning out about 2,500 pounds of meat a week. That's a whole lot of skewered deliciousness!.
Gourmet Spiedies? Yes, Please!
The Spiedie & Rib Pit didn’t just earn its spot in the hearts of fans by sticking to the basics. They reinvented the spiedie game by creating their trademarked “Spiedie Specialty” menu. It's not just food, it's an experience.
The Vestal Connection
Can’t make it to the Binghamton location? The restaurant’s second spot on the Vestal Parkway, owned by Susie’s sister, Elizabeth Lupo, serves the same mouthwatering menu. It’s become a top pick among Binghamton University students, staff, and anyone with a working set of taste buds.
What to Expect on July 1
When America’s Best Restaurants shows up, they don’t just grab a plate and go. They’ll be filming an in depth feature that includes some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, both classic and specialty spiedies will get their moment in the spotlight. Plus, owner John Schofield will sit down for an interview to share the story behind the sizzle.
