Johnson City Man Accused of Repeatedly Stabbing Wife
Police say a Johnson City woman was attacked by her husband, who allegedly stabbed her with a screwdriver and hit her with a hammer.
Authorities say 50-year-old Troy Bynum faces felony counts of assault, burglary and criminal contempt. He also faces several misdemeanor charges.
Investigators say police received a 911 call from an apartment on St. Charles Street around 11:15 p.m. January 12. The caller reported a man was stabbing a woman.
A police officer arrived as Bynum ran out a back door. He was taken into custody as he tried to flee.
Detectives say Bynum had kicked in the door of the second-floor apartment to get inside. A 14-year-old child was in the residence at the time.
The woman who was injured was taken to Wilson Medical Center for treatment.
Bynum was arraigned and remanded to Broome County Jail.
