A contractor has started a nearly half-million-dollar repair job on the historic Square Deal Arch at the Johnson City-Binghamton line.

It's taken nearly a decade but a contract finally is in place for rehabilitation work on Johnson City's Square Deal Arch.

Johnson City officials have spent years discussing the need to rehabilitate the century old Endicott Johnson "Workers Arch" at the village's border with Binghamton.

The village of Endicott is preparing to mark the 100th birthday of the arch built by Endicott Johnson shoemakers to honor company founder George F. Johnson.

Johnson City officials are looking for funding sources to cover the cost of renovating the Square Deal arch. The structure, which was erected by Endicott Johnson shoe workers in 1920, is in need of repair.
