New York Warns About Vaping Addiction in March
March is Vaping Awareness Month, and it is a time to talk about the dangers of vaping and how to quit. In New York State, the NYS Quitline is reminding people that help is available for anyone who wants to stop using vape products or other tobacco.
Why Vaping Can Be Harmful
Many people think vaping is safer than smoking, but that is not always true. Most vape products have harmful chemicals that can damage your lungs and brain. Vapes also contain nicotine, which is very addictive.
This is especially dangerous for teens and young adults. People who vape often say they have trouble breathing, focusing, and controlling their emotions. Some also report feeling depressed.
Free Help Is Available
The good news is that there is free help for people who want to quit. The New York State Quitline offers support, advice, and even medications to help reduce nicotine cravings. In 2025, they started a program called DropTheVape. It is a free texting program that lasts six weeks and helps young people learn how to quit step by step.
Real People Are Quitting
Many people have already used these services to quit vaping. Two young women from Manhattan shared their stories. One said the support helped her imagine life without vaping and stay focused. The other said vaping made it hard to exercise, but now she feels much better both physically and mentally.

How You Can Get Help
If you or someone you know wants to quit vaping, help is easy to find. You can call the NYS Quitline at 1-866-NY-QUITS. You can also sign up for free text support by visiting DropTheVape.org or texting QUITNOW to 333888.
