Twin Tiers Families Invited to Skate for a Cause This Holiday Season
Families in the Twin Tiers are invited to be part of a special event this holiday season. Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza will once again open its doors for the annual Toys for Tots Open Skate. It’s a chance for people from all over to enjoy an evening on the ice while helping local kids have a brighter Christmas.
A Chance to Skate on Pro Hockey Ice
This event is the only day all year when the public can skate on the same American Hockey League regulation ice used by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The open skate happens Wednesday, December 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m.
Anyone who brings a new, unwrapped toy or makes a five-dollar donation to Toys for Tots is welcome to join in. Kids are especially encouraged to bring a toy and share in the fun of giving.

A Tradition Built on Community and Kindness
Mohegan Arena says this night has become a meaningful local tradition. Justin Topa, the arena’s Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, says it inspires generosity year after year while giving families a rare chance to skate on the same ice as their favorite home team.
Extra Fun Throughout the Arena
Along with skating, families can enjoy light refreshments, and part of the proceeds will go directly to Toys for Tots. Guests can also enter to win prizes, including tickets to upcoming events. .
Don’t Forget Your Skates
One important note: you must bring your own skates since the arena does not have rentals. If you need to rent skates, the Toyota SportsPlex on Coal Street in Wilkes-Barre has rentals available with a photo ID and credit card. More details are available on their website.
A Night That Makes a Difference
The Toys for Tots Open Skate is a way to enjoy time with family, get into the holiday spirit, and help local children all at once. Organizers hope to see the community come together once again for an evening filled with fun, kindness, and plenty of smiles.
