The Surprising Candy New Yorkers Crave Most on Halloween
If you’ve walked into a store lately, you’ve noticed it - fall has officially arrived. Pumpkin spice lattes are back, Halloween decorations are filling shelves, and the candy aisle is practically begging us to grab a bag (or two). Spooky season is definitely here.
New York’s Favorite Halloween Candy
So, what do New Yorkers reach for first when it comes to Halloween treats? According to a new study from Apt2B, the answer is Sour Patch Kids. Sweet, sour, and a little mischievous, kind of like the season itself. Google Trends data from the past five Octobers showed that when it comes to trick-or-treat baskets, this tart little candy tops the charts in the Empire State.
Google Searches Revealed New York’s Sour Candy Obsession
The team at Apt2B mapped candy preferences across all 50 states by analyzing search data for 40 different candy bars and treats. That means our collective cravings left a digital trail, showing which sweet treat rises above the rest in every corner of the country. While chocolate bars like Reese’s and Snickers still reign in many states, New York clearly has a soft spot for something a little more sour.

Why Full-Size Candy Bars Make You a Legend
Of course, Halloween is about more than just the candy, it’s also about the kids racing from door to door, costumes slightly askew, pillowcases filling fast. Apt2B also surveyed 1,000 parents of kids ages 5 to 13, and the results reveal how Gen Alpha celebrates Halloween. One detail stands out: only 6% of Americans give out full size candy bars. So if you’ve been handing out the “good stuff,” your house is probably legendary in the neighborhood.
