These Are New York’s Five Best City Sunset Spots

You do not need to leave the city or climb a mountain to see a great sunset. Some of New York’s best evening views can be found in public parks and along busy waterfronts. A Mission for Michael surveyed over 3,000 people to find the best free sunset spots in cities across the country. Five New York locations made the list.

New York’s Best Urban Sunset Spots

Brooklyn Bridge Park took the top spot in New York. You can watch the sun go down over the East River, Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline. Pier 57 Rooftop Park ranked second. This free New York City park offers views of the Hudson River, Little Island and the surrounding skyline.

Cobb’s Hill Park in Rochester placed third. Its higher location gives visitors a wide view of the city, nearby neighborhoods and the park’s reservoir. Erie Basin Marina in Buffalo ranked fourth.

The marina offers waterfront views, boats, walking paths and easy access to nearby restaurants. The High Line in New York City rounded out the top five. The raised walking path gives visitors changing sunset views between buildings and toward the Hudson River.

Sunsets Help New Yorkers Relax

The survey found that 48% of people said watching a sunrise or sunset greatly improves their mood. Another 37% said it helps at least a little. Calm was the feeling most often connected to watching the sky change. Happiness, gratitude and a connection with nature were also common answers.
