A new study says New York is helping shape the internet more than almost any other state in the country. Researchers found New York ranks as the second biggest producer of online influencers in America.

New York Creators Have Billions Of Followers

BetMGM Casino looked at 2,000 of the world’s biggest creators across platforms including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch. They tracked where the top creators were born to see which states produced the most online stars.

The study found New York born influencers reach a combined 2 billion followers across social media platforms. Only California ranked higher.

More Than 1 In 10 Top U.S. Creators Came From New York

According to the report, over 10% of America’s most followed creators were born in New York. Researchers said that is far above the national average, with most states contributing only 2% of major influencers. They also found New York creators average around 32 million followers each, making the state one of the country’s most successful creator pipelines.

Instagram Appears To Drive New York’s Influence

They also found Instagram played the biggest role in the reach of New York born creators. The platform alone accounted for about 1.24 billion followers connected to top New York influencers.

Some Of The Biggest Names Came From New York

Among the best known New York born creators included Cardi B, Paris Hilton, Spencer X, and viral social media cat That Little Puff. The findings show New York has become one of the country’s biggest launching pads for internet fame as the creator economy continues to grow.
