Broome County Dad Fighting For His Life Needs Us
There are moments in life that shake us to our core. Moments that remind us how fragile and precious our time together really is. For Joshua, that moment came suddenly and without warning. What began with a seizure one July day turned into a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear: grade four astrocytoma glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer that now has him fighting with everything he has.
This isn’t just another medical story. It’s a human story. It’s about a man from our community who adores his children, who dreams of a future he now has to fight tooth and nail for, and about a community realizing that sometimes love looks like showing up.
A Fight He Didn’t Choose
When Joshua of Chenango Bridge was rushed to the hospital, his family thought it might be something small. No one expected a massive tumor, no one expected cancer, and no one expected the journey that followed. Doctors performed an emergent craniotomy and confirmed what no one could prepare for: this is a battle of a lifetime, one with odds that feel overwhelming.
Since that day, Joshua has endured rounds of chemotherapy and countless long drives to treatment far from home. He and his family make the trek two days every week, juggling appointments, side effects, and the emotional weight of fighting an enemy that doesn’t rest. But Joshua hasn’t given up. His courage inspires everyone around him, and his kids still see their dad as a hero because, after all, bravery isn’t about not being scared. It’s about showing up anyway.
The Cost of Being Brave
Cancer is unforgiving, not just physically but financially as well. Even with insurance, the expenses stack up faster than any one family should have to handle. From travel costs to treatment fees not covered by insurance, the burden grows heavier by the day. Hotels, gas, tolls, meals on the road, it all adds up, and it all chips away at families already stretched thin by worry and sleepless nights.
That’s where our community comes in. We may not have a cure to give Joshua. None of us can wave a magic wand and make cancer disappear. But what we can give him is something just as powerful: our love, our support, and a community-wide push to lift the financial weight off his family’s shoulders.
Love in Action
There’s a GoFundMe set up to help Joshua and his family with mounting medical bills and everyday expenses, so they can focus on what matters most: Joshua’s health and quality time with the people he loves. Every contribution, no matter the size, sends a message loud and clear: you’re not alone.
People don’t give just money. They give hope. They give strength. They give the breathing room a family needs when everything feels heavy. They remind us what community really is, caring for one another through the toughest chapters of life.

Rallying Around One of Our Own
We all wish we could heal those who are sick, but when that isn’t possible, support becomes its own kind of medicine. Prayers, messages, shared stories, and contributions are ways we show others that they matter. They are seen. They are supported.
So, let’s rally. Let’s be the village that stands beside this man and those who love him. Because in the fight of his life, Joshua isn’t just asking for help. He’s given us the chance to show what a community full of love looks like.
