Honoring Heroes: 15th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Binghamton
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, the Binghamton Fire Department will once again bring the community together for a moving tribute with the 15th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.
This event will take place at Mirabito Stadium, and it’s open to firefighters, families, and anyone in the community who wants to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
Why This Climb Matters
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs aren’t about racing to the top. They’re about walking in the footsteps of the FDNY firefighters who gave their lives while saving others that day.
Participants climb the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of the Twin Towers, to remember their sacrifice. It’s a powerful experience that connects people, not just to history, but to each other.
Event Details
The day kicks off with onsite registration at 8:00 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 8:50 a.m. The climb starts at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 1:00 p.m. Whether you climb every step or come to cheer on participants, your presence helps keep the memory of those heroes alive.
Open to All Ages
This is an all ages event, so families are encouraged to come out together. It’s not only a chance to honor the fallen but also a way to teach younger generations about courage, service, and community.
Supporting a Greater Cause
Proceeds from the stair climb benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which funds programs to support the families of fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit. By participating, you’re helping those who continue to feel the loss most deeply.

How to Get Involved
You can register in advance online or sign up the morning of the event. Teams are welcome, and many local fire departments, schools, and businesses come together to climb as a group. If you have questions or want to register a team, you can contact Chris Mallery at cmallery1@verizon.net or call 607-222-1428.
