In a world filled with not-so-good news, laughter is a great escape. And I hear it's good for you. I love to listen to a good comedian. And even better when it's a local comedian.

Our area has been fortunate to have local comedians and comedy shows throughout the decades, and another is about to happen this week.

Stand-up comedian Bill Lake, a native of Johnson City and SUNY Broome alumnus, will be performing not one, but two live stand-up comedy shows this Saturday, July 12th. Lake is a former co-manager of the Boho Comedy Club and co-producer of the Binghamton Comedy Crawl.

The two performances will take place at the Little Theater on the campus of SUNY Broome Community College at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Lake notes that the shows represent all the best material he’s created over a decade of writing and performing standup.

And here's the cool thing: the shows will be recorded and filmed for release as Lake’s first comedy album and special. So, the audience will become a part of the fun.

Ten years might sound like a long time before recording your first album and special, but when you write short, twenty-second long jokes like I do, it takes a long time to build up material.  Not only am I achieving a career-long goal with these show recordings, but it’s an added bonus that I get to do it in front of family and friends in the area where I grew up.- Comedian Bill Lake

Lake will not be the only comedian to get you to laugh on Saturday. Joining him during the evening will be a couple of other local/regional comedians - Eric Camp and Syracuse comedian Abdul Hadi.

The SUNY-Broome Little Theater is located on the campus of SUNY-Broome Community College at 907 Front Street in Binghamton. For ticket information, visit eventbrite.com and search for 'Bill Lake Comedy.'

Parking for the shows is free in the SUNY-Broome Ice Center lot. The Little Theater is accessed by entering through the Student Center doors. Go get some laughs. We all need it.
