
Southern Tier New York Weekend Fun! Check Out These Events
Last weekend was a busy one in the Southern Tier of New York, and as summer progresses, each weekend (and weekdays as well) brings a lot of events to attend.
While there are probably a lot more, here are a few things I found happening in and around the Binghamton area check out as you begin to make your weekend (and extended weekend) plans. Have fun!
The Afton Fair
The 135th Annual Afton Fair is set for this Thursday through Sunday, located at the Afton Fairgrounds just off Interstate 88 in Afton. Gates open at 11 a.m. on Thursday, featuring the Fireman's Parade & games at 7 p.m. Friday, gates open again at 11 a.m. and will feature a fireworks show at dusk. Deposit Lumberjack Festival
The annual Lumberjack Festival in Deposit is set for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, located at the Deposit Community Park, 20 Borden Street. Featuring juggling, dance performances, music, fireworks, craft and vendor street fair, horseshoe tournament, lumberjack competition, games of logging competition, Jack and Jill logging competition, rides, food vendors, a craft beer tent, 5K walk and run, rafts races and more. Discovery Center Evening Of Wine & Roses
The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier is hosting an Evening of Wine & Roses on Friday, located at 60 Morgan Road, Binghamton, adjacent to the Ross Park Zoo, beginning at 5:30 p.m. According to the Discovery Center website, attendees will get to sample local and Finger Lakes wines and enjoy light food fare along with musical entertainment. Funds raised will help support the Discovery Center's programs and exhibits dedicated to expanding children’s curiosity and caring. For more information, visit the Discovery Center website.
Bands & Brews Block Party
The Bands and Brews Block Party is Friday outside of the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, on Stuart Street, Binghamton. The party kicks off at 5 p.m to 7 p.m. It's free admission and will feature music from Brewhaha and Country Swagg. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Summer Concerts In Endicott
Endicott's Summer Concert Series continues this Friday on the Statge at Little Italy, George W. Johnson Park on Oak Hill Road, beginning at 7 p.m. This Friday's music will be by Celtic Charm. For the complete summer schedule, click HERE.
Binghamton Rumble Ponies
If it's sports you crave this weekend, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies return home after a long road trip and All-Star game break. Games will be at MIrabito Stadium on Henry Street, Binghamton Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, hosting the Erie Seawolves. Friday's game begins at 7:05 p.m., Saturday at 6:07 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. For more information, visit the Rumble Ponies website.
Broome County Fair
While this doesn't begin over the weekend, the 149th Broome County Fair deserves mention since it begins on Tuesday, July 23rd through Sunday, July 28th. The fair is located at the Broome County Fairgrounds on Route 11 in Whitney Point. For event and attraction schedules, and more, visit the Broome County Fair website.
