Indictments Handed Down in Child’s Death
An Endicott couple faces new charges and lengthy jail terms in the death of their five-year-old son. Charles W. Burks and Jennifer L. Burks are accused of causing the death of their son Chace Burks.
Prosecutors believe the couple gave the boy a lethal dose of oxycodone. A Broome County Grand Jury handed down the indictments against the parents. Last week the couple was charged with manslaughter. Today (Thursday) District Attorney Steve Cornwell's office presented a number of additional charges including: Assault in the first degree, Criminal Sale of a controlled substance, Assault in the second degree and Endangering the welfare of a child.
Charles and Jennifer Burks pleased not guilty to their original felony charges of second-degree manslaughter and will be arraigned on the additional charges at a later date. They both could face up to 25 years in state prison.
