The HP Hood dairy product distribution operation in Broome County will close in a few weeks.

The Massachusetts-based company has announced the facility in the town of Conklin will be shut down. The move will affect 32 employees at the Conklin Road site.

The expected layoff date will be October 27, according to the company's legal notice posted on the New York State Department of Labor website.

Hood closed its Crowley dairy processing plant on Binghamton's South Side in March 2012. That move eliminated 54 jobs at the Conklin Avenue facility which had been in operation for several decades.

Hood spokeswoman Lynne Bohan says the company will continue to maintain its corporate office for the Crowley Foods division on Pennsylvania Avenue in Binghamton. She says the company employs about 30 people at that site.

Bohan says Crowley-branded milk and other products also will continue to be sold at stores across the region.
