Sheriff’s officials say 31-year-old Garett Hunter was arrested June 19 and charged with three felony burglary counts as well as criminal contempt, criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny, criminal mischief and petit larceny.

Authorities say Hunter is accused of breaking into the Mirabito Gas Station in the Village of Sherburne twice, stealing a loaded handgun from inside a vehicle in the Village of Sherburne and then breaking into a home in the Town of Smyrna where Hunter had an order of protection issued for the resident.

Hunter was found hiding inside the victim’s home by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit.

Hunter was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 dollars bail.

Officials say the investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed in connection with other incidents in the Sherburne and Smyrna areas.
