A hiker in Sullivan County near Hancock is dead after slipping while trying to snap a picture at the Bouchoux Trail State Preserve May 27.

New York State Police say the man was hiking with two friends when he attempted to take a position at Jensen’s Ledge to get a better picture at around 6:31 p.m. slipped off.

A Sullivan county Sheriff’s deputy was able to locate the man and confirmed he was deceased on Sunday but due to the time of day and difficult terrain, responders were not able to bring the man out of the ravine until 2:45 p.m. May 28.  New York State Forest Rangers stayed with the man’s body through the night Sunday.

Authorities say the hiker was not from the area.  His name has not been released pending notification of family.
