Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say an Orange County, New York man is being charged with felony unlawful imprisonment.

Deputies received a 911 call from State Highway 28 in the Town of Bovina October 16.

Sheriff’s officials and the Village of Delhi Police responded and say a passenger in 22 year old James Garcia’s vehicle was being held and threatened by the Monroe man.

Authorities say Garcia also allegedly grabbed the victim’s cell phone and threw it away when he discovered the victim had secretly dialed 911.

Investigators say Garcia was involved in two crashes while driving on State Highway 28 in Delhi and Bovina, one of which left the passenger with injuries.

Garcia is charged with unlawful imprisonment, menacing, criminal mischief and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

He was sent to the Delaware County Jail on one-thousand dollars bail and a temporary order of protection was issued for the victim.
