Guilty Plea in Town & Country Stabbing
A Binghamton man will be sentenced in May after pleading guilty in the fatal stabbing of a man outside the Town & Country Apartments on Robert Street in Binghamton in February.
25 year old Juan Lopez-Laboy pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 31 year old Santos Schevarria following a fight at the apartment complex that actually began February 11 at the American Legion in Endicott and moved to Robert Street.
A murder charge was dismissed under the plea deal.
Prosecutors say Lopez-Laboy stabbed Schevarria in the chest. The older man died a short time later at the hospital.
Two days after the stabbing, Lopez-Laboy turned himself in at the Binghamton Police Station.
Lopez-Laboy faces a maximum of 25 years in prison under the plea deal.
