Grocery Store to Open in Former Binghamton Post Office
A Binghamton building that was home to a post office for decades is about to be converted into a food store.
Signs posted on the structure at 146 Main Street on the city's West Side indicate it will be the new location of A-1 Grocery & Halal Meat.
The business had operated in a building about a half-mile to the east until a March fire in a neighboring apartment house.
The damaged building at 59 Main Street was demolished in late April.
The site of the future grocery store had been used by the United States Postal Service as Westview Station until the office was closed in 2011.
A SERVPRO franchise acquired the 4,762-square-foot building in April 2016. The business used the site for a few years.
The owner of A-1 Grocery & Halal Meat could not be reached for information on when the store will open.
