Rebuilding of Greater Binghamton Sports Complex Delayed
More than two months after the steel framework for a new indoor sports facility collapsed, work on the project has yet to resume.
Sections of the steel supports for the structure at the site on Airport Road in the Choconut Center section of the town of Union suddenly fell on November 21.

A new structure was being erected at the site to replace an air-supported dome that gave way under the weight of heavy snow less than a year earlier.
Business owner Bob Kashou had hoped construction on the project could resume quickly after the latest setback. But there have been delays because multiple insurance companies are involved in assessing what happened. Kashou said: "It is frustrating."
Under the initial plan, the new complex was scheduled to open at the end of January. After the framework collapsed in November, Kashou anticipated opening the facility in April or May.
Kashou now believes construction at the site could resume in the next month or so. If that happens, the new structure could become operational in August or September.
