New York now has a new standard for dogs who help people in need

Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation identifying and developing training standards for therapy dogs, handlers and facilities. 

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell said guidelines will now be available regarding the definition, training, handling and using of service dogs.

The Democrat says Therapy dogs affect the well being of people in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, mental health facilities and other facilities.

The Governor says the legislation sets best practices for New York’s therapy dogs so they can provide the best care they can to people who need them.
