According to a consumer alert issued by the Department of Agriculture and Markets, the milk involved in the recall action was produced by Side Hill Acres Farm. The farm is located at 79 Spencer Road in Candor.

The recalled milk was sold at the farm store and at GreenStar Natural Foods Market in Ithaca under the name Side Hill Acres Goat Milk. It was packaged in gallon, half-gallon, quart and pint-sized plastic containers bearing the code 10516.

The statement from the state agency indicated a routine inspection revealed this lot of goat milk had not been properly pasteurized.

According to the agricultural agency, proper pasteurization heats milk in order to effectively eliminate all pathogenic bacteria, such as listeria and salmonella.

The statement said no illnesses linked to the recalled goat milk had been reported to the agency.
