The second annual Sock Out Cancer parade is set for Sunday, August 22  starting at Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott and winding through the region to end up at SUNY Broome Community College.

The mega-parade through Broome County and show of classic, fancy and not-so-fancy cars will benefit Sock Out Cancer the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW). Registration starts at 9 a.m. at Tri-Cities Airport. The entry fee is $10 per car and a non-perishable food donation to CHOW.

Last year, as a number of spontaneous parades were popping up to celebrate birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and other events. with gatherings prohibited by the pandemic, the idea came for the biggest parade ever for Broome County.  The event raised $4,000 for cancer programs at Lourdes and United Health Services hospitals and provided for 900 meals through CHOW.

Each entry Sunday, Augustt 22 will receive a pair of Sock Out Cancer socks courtesy of Security Mutual Life Insurance Company.

The parade Grand Marshall will be Nobel co-recipient, Binghamton University Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science M. Stanley Whittingham.

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.
