New York State Police Arrest Owego Man for Illegal Gun Production
An Owego man, John M. Standish, 52, has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after law enforcement officials discovered him illegally manufacturing ghost guns in his residence on Lisle Road in Owego. The New York State Police uncovered this illicit activity during an investigation into another matter on December 10, 2024.
Charges and Arrest
Standish faces a range of charges, including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree (a class "C" felony) and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree (class "D" felony). Additionally, he is charged with Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon in the third degree (class "D" felony), Criminal Possession of a Firearm (class "E" felony), and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree (misdemeanor).
Illegal Firearms and Manufacturing
Investigators revealed that Standish was found in possession of firearms that did not comply with the NY SAFE Act, along with high-capacity magazines and silencers. Despite lacking a pistol permit required for legal firearm possession, Standish was reportedly using 3D printers to manufacture parts for ghost guns.
Arraignment and Legal Proceedings
Following the discovery of these illegal activities, John M. Standish was arraigned at the Owego County Correctional Facility Centralized Arraignment on Friday.
