Gas Release Unreported in Susquehanna County
The Associated Press is reporting the Harmony natural gas compressor station in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania released a large amount of gas into the air in September in an incident that was not made public.
The report says more than twice the amount of natural gas normally released by a compressor station in a year spewed into the air in one night and was discovered in a review to the Coast Guard National Response Center Hotline for discharges of oil, chemicals and other substances.
No state agency nor Harmony made disclosure of the gas leak to the public.
Coordinator of the Susquehanna County Emergency Management agency, Robert Thatcher Junior said station operator, DTE Energy should have notified the county at the time of the gas release so residents could have been notified of any possible impact.
