County Executive Jason Garnar has selected Donald Bowersox to serve as the acting commissioner.

The appointment will take effect on April 28. That’s the retirement date for long-time commissioner Arthur Johnson.

Bowersox has been deputy social services commissioner since 2004.

According to a county news release, his thirty-year career has spanned all program areas handled by the Social Services department, including adoption, foster care and child protective.

Bowersox is expected to remain the acting commissioner while a search process is underway for a person to serve as permanent commissioner.
