Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Lockheed Martin is looking to cut its carbon footprint and electric bill with a new bioenergy plant in Tioga County.

The plant is to process eight tons of waste a day to generate power enough for the Owego plant and even another 250 homes.

Scotland-based waste management company, Concord Blue, partnered with Lockheed to design and develop the plant that is said to transform almost any kind of waste into clean, renewable fuels in a four-step process.

Officials say while heat is applied to turn waste into gas, the process is different from incineration.
