Upgrades At 26 New York Airports Including The Southern Tier

On September 4, 2024, $59,115,204 in federal funding to modernize facilities and strengthen airfield safety across New York State was announced by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer along with U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Several New York State airports will share the federal funding, granted through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program. The aim is to help fund projects that address safety, capacity, and security at 26 airports throughout New York State.

New York’s airports welcome millions of travelers each year, and it is vital that they have up-to-date infrastructure needed for passengers to travel safely. This nearly $60 million in federal funding will bring much-needed safety and infrastructure improvements to airports across New York State. Some of the p[projects will include constructing and expanding terminals, rehabilitating taxiways, and modernizing airport signage at the various airports. In the Southern Tier of New York, three local airports will be included in the funding as follows:

Greater Binghamton Airport - $4,712,777 for rehabilitation and lighting
Elmira Corning Regional Airport - $949,577 for runway rehabilitation and lighting
Ithaca Tompkins International Airport - $2,090,070 for taxiway rehabilitation and construction. &187,537 for runway signage and lighting, $2,090,070 for new aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle
In Central New York, the Cortland County Chase Field Airport will receive $419,492 for taxiway shifting and reconstruction.
