December 1, World AIDS Day, keeps the issues facing individuals affected by the disease, their family and friends in the public eye.

Meanwhile, Family Planning of South Central New York will be offering free confidential rapid HIV testing and counseling all next week at their locations on Hawley Street, Binghamton, Dietz Street, Oneonta and Cortland Street in Norwich and Tuesday only on Pleasant Street in Sidney and Wednesday only on North Street in Walton.

The rapid HIV test involves a prick to the finger for a drop of blood with results ready in 20 minutes.

The Family Planning Network is also providing counseling on how to identify and reduce people’s risk of HIV infection.

Officials say often people with HIV don’t have symptoms.  They say one in eight people in the United States living with HIV don’t know they have it.
