Fire at Cortland County Asphalt Plant
Officials are assessing the damage to a big asphalt plant in Cortland County after fire ripped through one of the buildings February 16.
Fire was reported at the Suite-Kote plant on Route 11 in Cortlandville at around 5:30 p.m.. Billowing smoke reportedly could be seen in neighboring Tompkins County at the airport.
The blaze was said to be in a pole-barn structure that stores plastic pellets used in making asphalt. Nearby liquid asphalt tanks were not involved.
Several fire departments responded and foam was hosed onto the barn to beat back the flames. Hazardous Material Teams also responded to the scene.
The blaze was reported out in an hour and there were no injuries.

It's believed the damage was confined to that storage facility.
Fire crews remained on the scene through the night on watch for possible hot spots and flare ups.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
