A Sidney man is dead following a motorcycle crash in Delaware County.

New York State Police say they were called to a report of a crash on State Highway 8 in the Town of Masonville shortly before 3:30 Thursday afternoon, July 7.

Troopers arriving on the scene say they found 54-year-old Joseph A. Beers had been traveling south on New York State Highway 8 near Old Route 8 where he drove his motorcycle off the road and hit a guiderail.

The site of the crash on the rural Delaware County roads is located between Butts Road and Bundy Hollow Road.

Beers was transported by the Sidney Emergency Medical Services ambulance crews to Tri-Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A news release issued over the weekend by the New York State Police Troop C Headquarters in Sidney did not provide information about the driver’s speed at the time of the crash, whether mechanical issues may have been involved.  There were no obvious adverse weather conditions at the time of the crash.

There apparently were no other vehicles involved and Beers was alone on the bike at the time. Troopers have not said if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

The news release does not provide the make and model of the motorcycle the Sidney, New York man was operating at the time of the crash.

The Masonville Fire Department assisted New York State Police on the scene.

The road is believed to have been closed for several hours while the initial investigation was being conducted and accident reconstruction crews were working at the scene.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
