Authorities say the blaze near 795 Tracy Creek Road was reported around 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

Vestal firefighters were assisted by units from West Corners and Apalachin.

Tracy Creek Road was closed between Jones and Knight roads for about an hour because of the blaze.

According to Vestal police, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Broome County fire investigator Darin Lewis said the blaze was caused by an unattended campfire. He said the small campfire had been started by a son of the property owner.

Lewis said although firefighters were concerned the blaze could spread to a couple of barns, no structures were damaged. He estimated the size of the area burned by the fire to be about 110 feet by 200 feet.
