Endwell Site Acquired for 115-Unit Apartment Complex
A Rochester-area business has purchased a six-acre site on Hooper Road in Endwell where it has planned to build a four-story housing project.
CDS Monarch acquired the property just south of Maine-Endwell High School this month for $475,000. The site had been owned by JST Properties LLC of Johnson City.
CDS Housing of Webster has proposed constructing a 115-unit apartment complex on the parcel. The property is adjacent to the Marian Apartments project, which has 102 units.
Some Endwell residents who live just west of the site of the new proposed housing development signed petitions expressing opposition to the project.
The town of Union zoning board of appeals approved a variance to permit a building taller than the 30-feet allowed under current regulations for the property.
The town planning board approved the project in August 2020. CDS Housing representatives had said they expected the housing development would cost $18 million. It's not known how much the cost estimate has changed.
CDS officials have said most of the apartment complex would be used for senior housing, although a small percentage would be for people with disabilities.
CDS representatives could not be reached Tuesday to discuss when construction might start for the project.
