Three people who were part of a crew putting on a holiday fireworks display at Highland Park in Endwell reportedly were threatened by a man with a knife.

Authorities said the incident at the town of Union park off Hooper Road was reported around 5:20 p.m. Sunday.

According to New York State Police, troopers were sent to the park after a 911 call was received.

34-year-old Joshua Bean of Endwell was arrested in connection with the incident. He was charged with three counts of third-degree menacing. Bean allegedly had a pocket knife during the confrontation.

An investigation determined Bean menaced three people who had been involved with the holiday fireworks display that had just concluded at the park. There apparently were no injuries in the incident.

Bean was taken to Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson for arraignment.

The confrontation between Bean and those working for the fireworks company came at the end of the annual Christmas in the Park event hosted by the town of Union.

Town supervisor Robert Mack told WNBF News he had left the park just before the incident occurred.

Mack said the parks manager advised him of the matter shortly after it happened. It occurred as the workers were in the process of tearing down the equipment that was used for the fireworks display.

Mack said most of the people who had been in Highland Park to watch the fireworks show had departed before the confrontation.

The town supervisor said the event had drawn a good crowd despite Sunday's rainy weather. He said most of the people who stayed until the finale watched the fireworks from inside their cars.

Mack said town officials were pleased no one was hurt in the incident. He said "it could have been a bad situation."
