Endicott’s New Mayor Outlines Top Priorities as He Takes Office
Nick Burlingame - who has just been sworn in as mayor of Endicott - acknowledges the village is going to face plenty of challenges in the year ahead.
The Republican defeated incumbent Linda Jackson and Democratic candidate Larry Coppola in November's election. Jackson sought reelection on a third-party line.
Burlingame was in the mayor's office early Tuesday morning on the first day of business after a swearing-in ceremony on New Year's Day.
At 37, Burlingame is the youngest Endicott mayor in recent memory. He said some believe he might be the youngest person to hold the office in the history of the village but that hasn't been confirmed.
As he takes office, Burlingame said there are some internal processes in village government that he believes "need to be improved and streamlined."
The mayor said the long-planned Washington Avenue revitalization project will be a top priority this year. He said he expects a contract will be awarded to the winning bidder early next month, clearing the way for construction to start in the spring.
Burlingame said he plans to focus on improving operations in the village code department with a goal toward better enforcement of "the laws we already have."
The mayor said he hopes to "restore pride within the village." He said "we have a lot of work to do" but he's confident that Endicott residents will see progress in the years ahead.
